Zane

There’s nothing I love more than torturing a motherfucker who deserves it.

Well, that’s not technically true. There’s one thing that takes the cake, and that involves a petite female with wide eyes, curly brown hair, and a cute button nose I want to nip at. But I suppose this will have to do until I can get back to my princesa.

Everything is as it should be—my karaoke music is blasting, allowing me to sing along, blood stains my hands…oh, and Dane is sitting on the seat across from me, bleeding profusely as he screams in agony.

The only thing that would make this night better is if I were balls deep in my princesa.

“Stab me, baby, one more time,” I sing…as I stab the fucker in the leg. He screams in agony, his entire face distorting in horror, and I smile as tears fill his eyes. Leaning forward, my tongue darts out to lick one of the fallen tears intermingling with the blood on his face. “Yum,” I purr, keeping my face mere centimeters from his. “You want to know what your tear tastes like, Dane?”

Dane cries even louder.

“Pain.” I lower my voice to a whisper. “It tastes like pain. And chocolate.”

Backing away, mainly because the stench of piss is beginning to permeate the air of my barn, I grab a towel off the rickety tools table and wipe off my bloody hands. Not because I’m done, but because I need to change the song on my radio.

And the last thing I want to do is get blood on it. Geez. I’m a serial killer, not an animal, thank you very much.

“Has he talked yet?” Landon steps inside the barn, the moonlight bathing his brown hair in shades of silvery white. Ryker and Beckett follow behind him.

The former immediately moves to crouch behind Dane, just out of his direct line of sight, while the latter grimaces and carefully steps over the bloodied hay.

“I don’t want to get my shoes dirty,” he says with a huff when he notices me staring.

“Awww, Becki-kins. Do you want me to carry you? I can give you little kissies to make you feel better,” I coo.

Friendship. Goals.

He flips me off and moves to stand behind Ryker, being extra mindful not to touch anything that will tussle up his immaculate appearance.

Turning towards Landon, I feel the smile fade from my face as if it were never there to begin with.

There’s a reason the others fear me. A reason why the world as we know it considers me a psychopath. One second, I’m exuberant and fucking awesome, but when you mess with someone I love…

I go dark.

That’s the only word I can think to use. It’s like a switch being flipped in my head, shutting off all of my emotions incrementally until I’m left with only two things—a numbness that cascades over me like a cooling tar, and a brilliant love that burns for one person and one person alone. Ellie.

“Not yet,” I say curtly, and I can honestly tell Landon is taken aback by my abrupt change in demeanor.
